Mandy's Page Preparations

There's just a couple of alterations needed to make this Dylusions Journal work really well with the added December photos and embellishments.

There is 94 pages if counting backs and fronts of each one - so too many for a December Daily. Removing a middle pages from each signature brought down that count, missed a couple but took out ten. And now it leaves space for the filling of photos/paint/embellies!

Just a slip of the knife underneath the stitching (got to be REALLY careful not to cut the thread!)

And a little tug, it comes away well

I dont tend to do a lot of preparation on each page before December 1st, though a good splash of paint on the black pages certainly is an idea  :)

Totally love glitter paper... might stick to die cut numbers :)

And probably will add a diecut word or two :)

Ooooh and lastly,  got my hands on these fabulous and somewhat whimsical stamps.
Just have to have a good think about how/where to use them!!

Not long now until the 1st of December!
The Christmas decorations will come out, and my past December Dailys will soon be placed on the coffee table again.   I love how each one is so different and how each one becomes such a laugh and chat with friends and family.   So happy another one will be making its way among the mix!

In the meantime, we'd love you to share all your process and December Dailys with us

Lori's 2017 December Daily Cover

Where do I even begin on this whole process...I knew that my cover would be the one thing in this whole adventure that would give me the most trouble! I have been planning it out for a few weeks now -  sketching out different ideas, making notes, spending hours on Pinterest looking for ideas...I should have just stuck with my first instinct and saved myself a lot of frustration!

I'm using a 6x8 chipboard album that I have had in my stash for a while. I had a few different ideas on how I wanted to decorate it. Idea #1 - decorate the cover like I would a filler page:

Then I  thought - maybe it would look better if I just added paint to the cover and used the doily piece for my cover, so I dug out a stencil with dots, grabbed my paint and went to work...

...and I got what I call sloppy dots. They weren't consistent - at all - but I'm not giving up hope - the doily piece is going to cover the majority of it anyway.

I still cannot get myself to like it and I think it's a good idea to just paint the whole cover white.

Yeah, not feeling that either, so now I am going back to my original plan - partly to cover up my mess, but mostly because that is what I liked best. Like I said, I should have just went with my first instinct!

I did sand the cover a bit to make it look a distressed, not that you can see it much. I traded out the die cut tree in my original photo for a couple of trees that I stamped and fussy cut and added the year to a label at the bottom of the cover.

In the end I think it turned out all right. I'm happy with it and that is what matters!

How about you? What kind of cover are you making for your December Daily? We would love to see it. Leave us a link to your cover in the comments below!

Tracey's 2017 December Daily Cover

For My first Ever "December Daily" I have decided to Die cut a lot of the album including the front cover and pages. The album is 8 inches x 6 inches..... I have used cricut Artbooking cartridge to cut these pages for the cover. The white paper is card board, which will add strength...I glued the pattern paper to this.

Using cricut Flower Market cartridge I cut two wreath layers, adding glue to the white layer then covering it in glitter.

I've had this Ginger bread-man stamp for a long time, he is so cute!...it seemed like the perfect choice to coordinate with the baking theme pattern paper. I embossed it, then cut a heart from the pattern paper, a little twine, crochet doily and brad. I die cut the banner then stamped "Merry Christmas" to complete the layers

I sprinkled my favourite tiny heart buttons around the wreath

I have die cut 2 layers for the tag, adding star washi tape for the border. Before I die cut 2017 I covered the white card in Jac paper
 ( double sided adhesive paper)

I pulled off the top layer of jac paper....instant sticker! Then covered it in glitter

I plan on hanging the tag from the rings I use to hold the pages together.

We would love to see your DD ideas...Be sure to link up in the comments below!

Mandy's 2017 December Daily Cover

Weeeell, kind of......
This year I'm using a Dylusions Square Black 8x8 Journal

So when I say 'kind of',
I'm doing the inside front page of the journal instead of the outside covers

Thats because of the included use of mixed media.  I know paint and all sorts of things will inadvertently get stuck on the outside covers while I'm working on it no matter how careful I try to be, so thought it would be best to leave them till the end.  I'm not envisaging that the outside covers  will be over worked....and probably quite plain.

There is quite the underneath 'paint jobs' by accident on this inside cover to get to the
end product and at first I really thought I'd made a mess of it!

My original thought was definitely the doors!
Except... these were not the door I intended to use!

This is how I started out...
Armed with red and green paint - AND my favourite 'door' paper by 7gypies, cut one of the shabby cream and green doors out thinking it was 'perfect'!

On with the red paint, nice and vibrant

Then thought...hmn,  a bit of brick up the side of the door might be nice

Might just add a little green...and roll it on

Ugh.. and the thing turned to mud!

(Was having horrors by this time!)
Back to the drawing board....best solution... paint it over black!
Put some very thin washi tape around it to keep the paint contained
And grabbed a stamp (Tim Holtz) and pressed it hard into the painted layers

BONUS!  What I got was a very subtle print for a background...
YAY!  Couldnt have turned out better nor by bigger accident!
The red and green paint even if just a smidgeon... showed through!!

LOL, THEN I changed my mind on the door!
It just didnt seem to suit any more so cut a little double one from the 7Gypies paper
And cut out the window panes too as I had this vision in my head.......

The vision was Santa passing by the windows in the door....
and a falala diecut in red sparkle crying out with the year added.

Phew... not so bad afterall! LOL!
My heart did sink there for a little moment in the process!
Nothing a slap more paint couldnt fix and a little extra washi tape :)

How are your's going?

Lori's December Daily Kit and Ideas

Hello, everyone! When I first started thinking about my December Daily and what I wanted to include in my kit, I was a little stuck. I am a traditional colors girl through and through. Give me red, green, and white with a little bit of kraft or black thrown in, and maybe a little touch of silver and gold. My problem with only going with these colors is that I plan on documenting not just the holiday and the stories, but a little of our everyday life in December, as well. Our granddaughter will be in the majority of the photos and that means lots of pinks and turquoise, so when I came across the Holly Jolly collection from Bella Blvd in my stash I knew it would be perfect to satisfy my need to have things match! Since the Holly Jolly collection is more on the cutesy side, I also added in the papers from the Advent collection from Illustrated Faith for the days that I wanted something not-so-cutesy.

I will be using the die cut pieces from both collections, and I have pulled some wood pieces, metal embellishments, enamel dots, sequins, and gems, and some baker's twine in colors that match the papers. I'm sure more items will be added along the way.

Since I will be making a lot of the cards and embellishments that will be going into my album, I have included quite a few of the Christmas stamps that I have collected.

I'm pretty sure I know the direction that I want to go in with my album, but I know things can change and I am just going to roll with it!

We would love to see what you create, so be sure to leave a link to your kit in the comments below, and be sure to grab our badge!

Tracey's December Daily Kit ideas

The hardest decision I found putting a kit together for my December Daily was....what papers will I choose? Will I use traditional colours or something else? As I plan on  "stash busting" my DD.......the photo below is where I started, papers everywhere!

Then I fine tuned it to this.......I will be using colour photos, so I have kept the colours very simple. White,  Kraft and Red. The photos and embellishments will add more colour!

Lots of my favourite things!

Lace, pom pom, ribbon , washi tape, tags, stamps, sequins, glitter, colours shine

Can you see the tiny pepper and salt shakers? I have a collection of these for all my glitter....they look so cute all together on a shelf.

Doillies, more sequins, twine, wood veneer

I have kind of a plan in my head........Keep it simple is the main one! Things could change depending on the photos I take each day.

Be sure to link up, we would love to see your ideas.
